Dedicated to the memory of Les

This site is a tribute to Les.  Our gentle, kind, generous and funny husband, father, uncle, brother, father-in-law and toppie passed away peacefully on 12 June 2024 after a courageous fight on ICU following elective spinal surgery.  He was a great lover of the outdoors, a braai-master and had a lifelong love of music.  He loved to be by the sea or any body of water!  He was a hilarious wordsmith with a knack of turning the most mundane words into belly laughter at family gatherings.  He was devoted to and adored by his family who are heartbroken.

Please feel free to post any memories, funny stories or photos, we would love to read/see them.

Thoughts

The world suddenly feels a little empty without Les in it. This great, jolly man was my mentor when I was growing up, and I owe it to him for guiding me from 'Blowing-Shit-Up' to 'Making-Sure-Shit-Does-Not-Blow-Up'. Les felt more like a friend than anything else, even though we were decades apart in age. My you rest in peace, my good friend.

Goodbye, My Friend. I thank you for being in my life and for all that you contributed to my passage. Your influence on my being will forever be indelibly etched within me. You are truly a legend! I cannot remember precisely when we met? I think we shared a lift in the back of Jimmy Robertson’s Mother’s Morris after a session at St Bernadette’s. Our first real connection was when Smelly and I came to visit Russell Cooper at the Deals Hotel, when you and Uola were playing there as the Fruitless Discussion. We became the Three Musketeers, You, Smelly and I. We were Family, You, Laverne, Safron and I, as You and Uola opened up your home to us when we moved to Cape Town to set up Korb Systems together. We made music together, You, Smelly and I, together with many others, and shared this love to the extent that we incorporated a music room in our factory. How precious was it when we played hooky from work to play a song or two? Penzephyr was a blast! We played hard! We partied hard! Thanks for those times, my Good Friend. We were inventors together, You and I. How many beautiful hours did we spend discussing our latest fantasy invention or grapple with a technical problem. Priceless were the many hours after work, developing the Polywave and other products with Chis Prior or Raiff Lavine on the radio, sometimes to the chagrin of Uola and Laverne when we lost track of time. Our audacity to export electronic equipment built in your garage into the USA! But we did it! And the Hammond? ……. O, the Hammond! What a pity we never got to complete that rebuild project. We were business partners together, You and I. Korb Systems started out as a shared dream that lasted for four years. Our ability to overcome together will remain forever engraved in my mind. We nurtured our bond, You and I, never was there an aggressive moment, no matter how we may have disagreed on a subject. A true Gentleman you were. We maintained our close contact even after you decided to go and live on the other side of the pond. Our marathon calls which included Uola and Laverne are going to be missed more than what anyone will ever know. Let it be known that your departure has left a gaping void in my soul. One which will never be filled. Les, may You be at peace, my friend. Go well. Goodbye …… until we meet again.
